Speed Up Windows7

Here's a little guide to show you how to speed up your windows7 operating system.

1. If you're not using search frequently, disable Windows Search Service from Services.

How: Right click "Computer" -> "Manage" -> "Services and Applications" expand it and select "Services", find "Windows Search" double click it and change Startup type to "Disabled".

2. Disable the Aero theme

How: Right click on your desktop -> "Personalize" and select "Windows Classic" theme.

3. Disable visual effects

How: Right click "Computer" -> "Properties" -> "Advanced System Settings", then you will see "Settings" button under "Performance" if yes, click "Settings" and select "Adjust for best performance".

4. Disable UAC (User Account Control), It will stop the annoying allow/block popups

How: Go to "User Accounts" in Control Panel and then click "Change user account control settings" and drag the slider down to "Never notify" (Reboot will be required)

5. Disable useless Windows features

How: Go to Control panel -> "Program and features", on the left side you will see "Turn Windows features on/off" click on it. Now a list of Windows features should come up, unselect only the features you don't need (e.g Games)

6. Diable Windows Gadgets

How: From "Turn Windows features on/off" we just saw a list of features, find "Windows Gadget Platform" and unselect it

7. Disable Aero Snap feature

Aero Snap helps you resize, maximize, minimize windows if you drag them on the screen edges.

How: Go to Control Panel and select "Ease of Access Center" and click "Make it easier to focus on tasks", then tick "Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen".

8. Disable unwanted startup items

How: Hit the start button and select "Run" or "Windows Key + R" and type "msconfig" click the "StartUp" tab and untick all the programs you don't really need (DO NOT untick any Antivirus or driver, they are more than needed)

9. Disable unwanted effects.

The following steps will disable your Screensaver/Windows sounds

How: Right click on your desktop and then select "Personalize", on the bottom of the window you will see "Sounds" and "Screensaver" click on "Sounds" and change Sound Sceme to "No Sounds".

Then select "Screensaver" from Personalize and change it to "(None)".

10. Disable Windows user password

WARNING: I recommend this operation only for desktop machines, do not do this on yourlaptop (if you take it out of home) Windows user password helps you to protect your private data. So if you are taking your computer to school, work etc ignore this step, otherwise:

How: "Windows Key + R" or "Start -> Run" type "control userpasswords2" a window will come up focus where it says "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer." untick it, then you will be asked for your current password, type it and hit 'confirm' and its done

I personally tried these steps and i noticed a dramatic speed up of Windows 7 but if you love eye-candies and effects im sure you're not gonna like it.
